Spellbinders Free Hugs Oscar Dieset

Today I'm showing another cute bird from the Spellbinders Cheerful Chirps Collection. You can see the entire collection by clicking HERE. Much is already sold out but I'm hoping it will be restocked.

This one is called Free Hugs Oscar, isn't he a funny little bird? As of this writing, he is still available but hurry, if you're interested in buying this set. I cut the bird's body from white cardstock and just edged him with Spun Sugar Distress Oxide ink. I like the "Bamboo Screen 3D embossing folder from this collection, it's a great basic. It adds a nice textured background.

I also used the January 2025 Large Die of the Month, this gorgeous Atrium, which could also be a fancy bird cage. This is my favorite Large Die of the Month for 2025 so far! The flowers and leaves are included in this set. I cut the atrium from kraft cardstock and an additional layer for dimension. Everything else is just random pieces of scrap cardstock. I added a few clear "waterdrop" gems, these are discontinued but I found some that are similar, linked below. There are also some gorgeous yellow sequins in this collection, I don't have them but I'll link them below!

That's about it, pretty easy for such a pretty card!

BetterPress Plate Glimmer Hot Foiled Heartfelt Sympathy Card

 

I love how versatile the BetterPress plates are, you can ink or Glimmer hot foil them. I used the new Spellbinders "Heartfelt Sympathy" BetterPress Plate and silver foil on purple cardstock. 

Isn't the script beautiful? It's by Paul Antonio, a talented calligrapher.

You can see the recent release HERE. It was beautiful but the card looked a bit plain. I decided to add the "Silhouette Butterfly" to the card and as I've done before, used a template to properly position the butterfly's outline and body because it is a 2 layer process. The BetterPress set can be lined up using the included acetate template but you can't use it on the Glimmer hot foil machine because it could melt the acetate. So I came up with a way to line it up easily. Here's a 1 minute video showing how I did it by making a template.

Spellbinders Say Cheese Classic Mouse Collection

     

Spellbinders Say Cheese Classic Mouse Collection is the original mouse in Steamboat Willie, which entered into public domain in 2024, not the modern day Mickey. You can see in the BetterPress plate below the look of the original character, very cute!

Simon Hurley Under the Sea Stamps and Dies

 

Simon Hurley just released these new stamps called Under the Sea. Spellbinders has some matching dies for the sea creatures. They are interesting stamps, as you can see each one has a design drawn inside the stamps, it's not a simple outline of a fish. It looks good inked up, here I used a few colors together on each stamp. Below is a YouTube tutorial on these cards.

I used some Paper Pouncers to apply multiple colors of inks onto the stamps. The stamps have lovely designs which makes using them so easy! No coloring! I used Simon Hurley inks in Prom Queen, Crown Me, No Diving, Roar! and Sike. Spellbinders has made a set of matching dies for the sea creatures (but not the sentiments).

For the first background, I applied Clear Skies and Crown Me Astro Pastes to black Mixed Media Paper with a palette knife and Craft Tool, just pulling it across the paper.

For the second card, I used Beluga Solar Paste, Crown Me and Breakup Blue Lunar Pastes on the black Mixed Media paper, using the same tools. I didn't like the look of it after it dried, so I went back to an old favorite technique of mine, archival ink on an embossing folder. I love the way the image is raised and the ink is pushed into the recessed areas. It really makes the design pop.

I diecut all the images and also cut an extra layer out of scrap cardstock just to make the images a bit more sturdy. I used foam tape to pop up the sentiments.

Simon Says Stamp Friend Like You Release!

 

 Today I'm using the Under Sea Friends stamp set today from Simon Says Stamp's Friend Like You Collection. You can see the entire collection by clicking HERE.

 I decided to try to stamp directly on my card, skip the fussy cutting. I wanted a water background but didn't want to color the entire thing in and have to mask the whales.

I stamped and coloredthe whales and plants first, leaving the water white. I then took a piece of acetate and cut it to fit, only coming up to where I wanted the waterline. I used a felt applicator and applied some blue alcohol inks in a swirly pattern to mimic water. When laid on top of the image, it looks like water!

I did have to mask the top whale because I wanted to color a shore and sky. I used ripped paper to mask the greenery and sky, using a blending tool and Distress Oxide inks.

 I applied a few sequins to the image and I made a frame for my square card by cutting each side of the frame and brown ink to look like wood. I used some thin foam tape to pop it up.
