Using Holographic Paper to Make Simple Cards

 

I received Box 5 of Your Paper Insider, a subscription paper company. 4 times a year they send a surprise box of paper for crafting. You can learn about it here: Your Paper Insider.

I had the white holographic cardstock sitting on my desk for a while, it reminded me of a snow storm. So one day I decided to make a quick card. The paper is 8.5" x 11", I cut it into 4 pieces to make A2 card fronts, 4.25" x 5.5". 

I quickly embossed one panel with the Spellbinders Snow Flurries 3D embossing folder, diecut a snowflake from another piece of paper from Box 5, popped it up with foam tape and grabbed a sentiment from my stash (Spellbinders Glimmer sentiment). This was a quick card. I had no idea it was going to be so popular on Instagram.

I took the another piece of the cardstock and embossed it but unfortunately put the paper in backwards and embossed the back, which is plain. I didn't want to waste it so I took some gold acrylic paint and filled in a few of the debossed areas, cut a larger gold snowflake and mounted it on an already embossed gold background from my stash.

For my 3rd card I cut some silver Sizzix Seasonal Trees and glued them onto another piece of the cardstock, this time I skipped embossing it. I took another one of the sentiments I had foiled and glued it on. Even quiker!

That's it, nice and simple.

Use Up That Patterned Paper!

I still have some pads of patterned paper from my scrapbook days, which I no longer use. Some of it is so pretty, but I'm too busy having fun creating my own backgrounds to use this old paper.

I recently posted a video about using my unsuccessfully inked backgrounds, reverse embossing them and covering the raised side with black ink. If you want to see that blog post or YouTube video, go to 11/21/23. 

I had a scrap piece of this paper, it has a mixed media look, a bit of script in on it, florals, and different colors. I wondered if I could get a similar look to the cards I made a few weeks ago, so tried it. The colors are much more muted so I used brown ink over the embossed panel and wow! A very vintage look with minimal effort! I decided to make a quick video showing this which I made into a "short" for YouTube. You can see that here. 3D Embossing Folder, Dies and Ranger Lunar Paste

The great thing about Ranger/Simon Hurley Lunar Paste is that it doesn't crack when diecut or used with an embossing folder. I just love these metallic colors. Here's the video tutorial on how I created this card.

I applied the Lunar Paste to 110 black cardstock. The most important tip is to be sure it's completely dry before embossing or diecutting.
