Embossing and Painting Acetate

If you've seen my Instagram Posts, you know I love 3D embossing folders. I'm always trying to think up new ways to use them. This is lightweight acetate embossed with Spellbinders Notched Florals 3D embossing folder. I then painted the backside (with metallic acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby), where all the florals and berries are recessed. The recessed areas form little "wells" which makes it easy to apply paint. I painted 2 layers.

Here is my YouTube video tutorial, all products used are linked in the description under the video.

I inked a piece of Neenah Solar White Classic Crest with Spun Sugar, Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry, Aged Mahogany, and Villainous Potion.

I adhered the acetate to the panel with Distress Collage Medium and Artis Glue, but any glue that works with plastic is fine. Only put the glue on the back of the acetate where it can be hidden by the metallic paint.

The sentiment is called Autumn Serenade Sentiments by Spellbinders.

Altenew Blossoming Branches and Metallics!

Today I'm sharing my card using an old embossing folder, Altenew's "Blossoming Branches". This one looks great, but really any embossing folder with a good amount of recessed background would work.

At the end of the video, I have another example using a Simon Says Stamp embossing folder. Here is the video:

I used 110 lb black cardstock (mine is from Hobby Lobby), lightly misted the back of the paper and embossed the panel using Altenew's Blossoming Branches.

I then used an anti static powder bag on the panel. We have the heat on in my house, I could hear the static when I opened the embossing folder! I used Versamark Ink over the raised areas, and applied and heated gold embossing powder.

The painting is very easy, I used Finetec Pearlescent watercolors, and painted horizontally. You'll see the paint strokes when it dries.

That's it! I used gold cardstock to mat my panel and mounted it on an A2 sized card.

Supplies are linked below. If you use my affiliate links, I receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. All products used today were purchased by me.

Pinkfresh Studio Large Snowflakes and 12x12 Cardstock Shop Paper

I purchased these gorgeous Pinkfresh Studio Large Snowflakes, aren't they stunning? I wanted to make gold snowflakes, so I ordered the Encore Gold Sequin cardstock from 12x12 Cardstock Shop. It is so sparkly and the best part is, it's easy to diecut and it doesn't shed glitter.

I made this card a bit larger, A6 size. It's 4.75" x 6". I buy A6 size envelopes because I frequently make card panels A2 size and want a border around it. I wanted to use artistic license here and fit 5 snowflakes.

The pink cardstock is Neenah Rose Quartz Pearlescent cardstock. It's the perfect shade of pink and has an irredescent shine. I cut it to A6 size, cut the white panel from Cordenons white Faux Leather Cardstock to A2 size, 4.25" x 5.5". I popped this onto the pink cardstock with fun foam for dimension.

I cut the snowflakes from both pink and the gold cardstock. I popped out all the negative space of the gold snowflakes and glued the gold snowflakes to the pink snowflakes, reinserting the pink negative space. I arranged the snowflakes onto the white panel. I thought the card needed some filler, so I used a regular hole punch and cut out the "sequins". I glued these randomly on the card.

I hot foiled a bunch of these  Spellbinders Mini Christmas Sentiment strips with gold foil. Luckily I had the perfect sentiment for this card!

I love the way this turned out, so festive and shiny!

Altenew Rhododendrun Layering Dieset and Background Tutorial

I won an Altenew gift card, so I bought the Rhododendrun Layering Dieset. I wanted my card to look like a dimensional watercolor painting. By far, the most questions I get are about how to get a layered ink or paint background. The answer is, water, ink or paint and drying between layers. Also you need a paper that can handle all the wetting and drying.

Here's the YouTube video tutorial I made:

Honestly, I enjoy the process and if you watch the video you can see how many layers I make. Some of it is to cover some mistakes, lol. I find it so fun and relaxing.

For the rhododendrun I pretty much use the same technique (or lack of technique) and just cover the petals and leaves, using uneven application. It looks better that way, to me.

All the products are linked under the video in the description. Thanks for using my affiliate links, it helps me out. I receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. It also lets companies and me(!) know that you find these posts helpful.

Vellum and Simon Says Stamp Meadow Leaves Embossing Folder

Sometimes when I emboss vellum, it cracks. You can hide the cracks by mounting it on a white panel. What about when you don't want white on white? So I started thinking about how to hide the cracks. One of my favorite techniques is to rub a ink pad on an embossing folder. I thought maybe using white pigment ink would hide the cracks. So I rubbed my favorite white pigment ink, Hero Arts Unicorn on the embossing folder. Remember that if you rub the pad onto the RAISED areas of the embossing folder, it will push the ink into the RECESSED areas of the embossed panel. If I rubbed the ink on the top side of the folder, where I usually do, it would push the ink into the backround, not what I wanted.

I want the ink to hit the leaves and branches, the raised areas of the panel after embossing. I usually do this by embossing the paper first, then taking an ink pad and carefully rubbing it over the raised areas. But when the image doesn't fully cover the panel, sometimes ink gets where I don't want it to by, namely the background, and I end up with a messy panel. Several people told me it's difficult for them to rub the ink pad over the panel.

If when you rub the ink pad over the embossing folder, wipe the ink off any places you don't want ink to end up.

Here is my YouTube video of how I applied the ink, sometimes seeing is easier than reading.

How to attach vellum to a panel without seeing glue? Cut the vellum longer than the panel and fold over the excess. Put the adhesive on the fold and attach to the back of the panel.

If you look under the video in the description, the products are linked. I don't have an affiliate link to Simon Says Stamp but I have links for the other products where available. The vellum I used is 65 lb Darice brand, this is a very old pack, I'm not even sure Darice is still in business. Also I should mention that the Scalloped Frame I used for one card is by Lawn Fawn, also very old.

Note that the colors of the inked panels behind the vellum are very bright, the vellum softens the colors quite a bit. You can see that in the video.

My links are in the description under the YouTube video, everytime I try linking products here, they kick my video off because they think it's spam. So here is a link to Scrapbookcom and Spellbinders, where I buy most of my products.
