Simon Says Stamp DieCember Whirl Nordic Medallion

It's Simon Says Stamp's DieCember! Today I'm using the Whirl Nordic Medallion. It's a cute little die, isn't it? On the first card I used a tag die that I had in my stash. I diecut it and using Distress Oxide inks, I color blended shades of pink in Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Lumberjack Plaid. The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp, "Poinsettia Swag".

For my 2nd card, I embossed a piece of cardstock with SSS Icy Snowflakes embossing folder. It comes with a die but I didn't use it.
For the Whirl Nordic Medallion die, I layered 2 pieces of cardstock  and ran it through my diecutting machine, so 1 piece diecut, the other diecut the outer edge but left the inside intact, I did this 3 times. I was able to ink each using Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Salvaged Patina. I also used these colors with a small blending brush to blend thin horizontal stripes on cardstock and then diecut the Fancy Peace die.

Concord & 9th Festive Blooms Shaped Card

The Concord & 9th "Festive Blooms" dieset makes it simple to put together a pretty bouquet. There is a die for the base which embosses marks on it to let you know where each leaf, bloom, etc goes on the card. Of course, you could just skip the base and make your own layout. Sometimes it's nice to go the easy route and still end up with a beautiful card.

I used this dieset a few months ago and inked up the diecuts for a bit more interest. I placed the entire panel on a white card base.

This time I decided to make a shaped card by using half of a piece of Spellbinders cardstock to make a card and then partial diecutting it with the shaped base die. I think I like the shaped card better, it really makes it special. I used vellum for an extra layer on the flowers.

Spellbinders Bold Color Mix Numbers

It's very handy to have a set of numbers for cards. I made one a few weeks ago using the Spellbinders Color Mix Celebration Collection that said Happy New Year 2025 see it HERE.

For this card I used the Press Plates and hot foil. I placed the numbers on an A2 panel (I couldn't fit 2 of the numbers) and hot foiled it with Rainbow Glimmer foil. The small Happy Birthday sentiment is included with the numbers. There's also a few other sentiments included in the set and "th" "nd" etc so you can write Happy 3rd birthday, 2nd birthday, etc.
The other 2 cards are inked and I used the BetterPress to stamp the numbers with Archival Ink. I did this so I could use the Sweeping Celebration Press Plates over the numbers. I like the "Class of" sentiment, so great for graduation cards.

Spellbinders Florals Through the Year

Spellbinders has a BetterPress Press Plate collection where you can make a desk calendar. It's called Florals Through the Year. I have 3 of the months, November, December and January. Each set consists of 3 press plates, the floral image, the name of the flower and the month. You can use 1, 2, or 3 of the plates. You can see in my photo I used 3 for both November an December but for the Snowdrop image I skipped the month.

I Glimmer hot foiled my cards but you can use ink instead with the BetterPress. I think they look pretty elegant and would be a nice birthday card or a general greeting card.

I matted each one with a similar color cardstock to highlight the colors.

A Simple Yet Beautiful Card Using Stickers? YES!

I received these cute stickers from Paper Source, "Holiday Characters Stickers". I wanted to try using them on a card but how do you make a card without them getting lost on the card and how do you make it look good?

I wanted it to look like something I would like to mail out yet not look like a child made it. I think I came up with a good solution. I used my handy dandy 1 1/2 inch circle punch and arranged the circles on an A7 Paper Source card. I really like the color of this card, perfect for the holidays. Plus the weight of the card is so nice, very elegant.

I did Glimmer Hot Foil the sentiment with Spellbinders Mini Christmas Sentiment Strips which are no longer available, but there are other Christmas sentiment strips.

Here is a quick 1 minute YouTube tutorial:

Diecutting Felt with Spellbinders "Felt Stitch & Create Collection"

I've wanted to try diecutting felt for awhile. I love those tiny decorative pillows with diecuts sewn on. So I was very excited to see Nichol Spohr's "Felt Stitch & Create Collection" for Spellbinders.

I received the Pumpkin Lane House, the Acorn House, the Snowy Owl, the Reindeer, and the Forest Fox, so there's more to come! I sewed the Acorn House but couldn't fit it onto this embroidery hoop frame. Here's a photo of my original idea. I wanted to make a little pillow but I have no idea how to do that since I'm not great with a sewing machine.

I have found that the key to diecutting felt is using quality felt. In the past I tried using those inexpensive acrylic felt sheets from Michaels but the edges didn't diecut cleanly. So skip that felt. I have heard that you could buy the acrylic felt that is stiff, but I didn't try those.

This is wool felt, some of this is from Spellbinders, some is from someone I found on Etsy who sells bundles. I diecut the pieces 2x and stitched them together. A few of the pieces I stuffed with fiberfill. Nichol Sphor has a video on her YT channel showing an alternative to fiberfill, a lightweight fabric, I didn't have that so I used what I had. I think I've had that bag of fiberfill for 30 years, no joke. I made a Bucilla tree skirt back then. Felt is great because it doesn't fray.

Side note: You can use cardstock to diecut this set. You can choose to stitch the paper like all those stitching dies you see on cards!

These dies are reminiscent of those Bucilla kits, if you are familiar with them. There's precut felt and beads and sequins in those kits to make holiday decorations. My mother in law made my family Christmas stockings with those kits. Now that she's no longer here, it's a nice memory of her when we decorate for Christmas. The nice thing about these dies is that you can choose your colors! Make the pink pumpkin, whatever color you like, you can personalize this for yourself or for whoever you are making for. This is a nice decoration for Thanksgiving. If you have a pretty script, you could sew Happy Thanksgiving on the wool.

My mom used to buy a Christmas ornaments as a vacation souveniers. She said she liked a reminder of where she went but didn't want it out all year long. I think that's a great idea and have done the same on my vacations. I think the same for making something like this, I can pull it out and put it on my buffet or mantle just for the season. The other diesets can be made into ornaments too or sewn onto a premade Christmas stocking.

There's not much to tell about making this scene. If you can hand sew with thread and a needle, you can make this. First I diecut all the pieces and followed the needle holes to add the thread, stitching the 2 layers together using 2-3 strands of embroidery floss. The DMC floss is 6 strands, I just separated it into whatever I needed.

After I sewed all the individual pieces, I took the navy background felt and put it into the embroidery hoop. I had the hoop but you can find them at any big craft store or on line. I attached all the pieces to the background by stitching them on, except for the "Autumn" word, that I glued on. Glue works well too. You can get fabric glue but I used Scrapbookcom's Artis glue with the included fine tip. The Autumn diecut is cut from felt and from cardstock, just to keep it sturdy since I was gluing it on. It can also be stitched on but this is a regular die and doesn't have the stitching holes.

Spellbinders "Bold Color Mix Numbers" BetterPress Plates and Dies

This is for sure a celebration in a card! Happy New Year with Spellbinders "Bold Color Mix Numbers" BetterPress Plates and Dies. Included in this set are all the numbers 0-9 plus the sentiments Happy New Year, Happy Birthday, Congratulations, Happy Anniversary and You Did It! To add onto the numbers there is the "st, th, nd, and rd. That way you can say, Happy 3rd Birthday, etc.

For my card I used both the BetterPress Plates and the matching dies (sold in a bundle or separately).

Of course you can use the Better Press with these numbers and use multiple colors but I decided to Glimmer Hot Foil the press plates. I used Holographic Hot Foil on the numbers and then used the dies to diecut the numbers out. The Happy New Year sentiment is included in this set so I used a leftover scrap and hot foiled it. I used the dieset to diecut the numbers and popped them up with foam.

For the background I used the Novermber 3D embossing folder of the month, I used it on another card HERE. After I embossed it, I used Distress Oxides and blended bright colors onto the the circles.

I always mean to send out Christmas cards but miss the mailing deadline, so this will be my holiday card.
