The October 3D embossing folder of the month was the Joyful Candy Canes. It's now available for individual purchase, you don't have to join the club. But if you're like me and you love 3D embossing folders, the Club of the Month is a great deal.
I used it before, in much darker colors and put embossing powder over the raised areas, you can see it on my blog HERE.
I took an A2 piece of Hammermill cardstock and ink blended 3 colors, with Distress Inks in Fossilized Amber, Picked Raspberry and Broken China.
I then took a piece of vellum LARGER than the A2 piece of paper, and embossed it with the Joyful Candy Canes embossing folder. The reason it's larger than the card is, (1) I want to position the embossed sections properly over the ink blended panel. If you look at my photo you will see separations between the designs. I wanted to be sure it looked ok and not off kilter. (2) I wanted to wrap the vellum around the inked panel so I could glue it to the back without seeing the glue or tape runner through the vellum. If you used vellum, you know you need to hide the adhesive.
I did take a Hero Arts white pigment ink pad and carefully ran it over the top of the raised areas on the vellum. I just wanted it to standout a bit more but this isn't necessary, it still looks good without the ink and some people say it's hard not to smear the ink.
I really liked the way it looked and wished I didn't have to put anything over the card but I know it looked a bit incomplete so I adhered some diecuts on the front and a sentiment. I've seen people use vellum with cardstock to give the diecuts an airy feel. So I did that here.
