Tim Holtz and Sizzix re-released some Halloween diesets and 2 larger sized embossing folders. I made some samples for Scrapbooking Made Simple's YouTube video. You can see their video HERE. Here are the cards I made for that video:
After I made those samples, I really wanted to make something using old and new. I have a lot of Tim Holtz/Sizzix Halloween dies I have collected over the years. I thought it would be fun to make a Halloween decor vignette. I used a piece of Distress Heavystock cut to fit the large A5 embossing folder.
I diecut the house from sparkle cardstock, it was from a box of specialty paper from Your Paper Insider. I placed the house on the paper to get an idea of where to blend the yellow Distress Oxide ink on the paper for a eerie halo effect. The area around the house I inked in shades of purple, leading into the shades of green. All of the inks were Distress Oxides, the easiest inks to blend on paper.
I put black Archival Ink onto the Cracked Embossing Folder in the new large A5 size. I then ran the inked panel through. It just highlights the cracks a bit. Here's a closeup:
The top layer of the moon was cut from the Distress Mixed Media cardstock, then spritzed with yellow Distress Spray and Flickering Candle Distress Mica Stain. It's the perfect Halloween yellow. The bats are from the same set and cut from regular black cardstock.
For the "Gate Keeper" gates, I diecut the pieces from black Mixed Media cardstock and used some acrylic paint to give the patina effects. It's just turquoise and green. For the copper areas I used Sizzix Rose Gold Luster Wax.
I diecut the "Trick or Treat" children from the same black Mixed Media cardstock and then using a rainbow of colors of Spritz and paper strips to mask off areas I didn't want each color to go, just quickly spritzed each child.
The Cobblestone walk is cut from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock. I sprayed it with some Antique Linen Distress Spray and then light mists of Speckled Egg, Old Paper, Gathered Twigs. Inked up my Cobblestone Embossing Folder and ran it through my Big Shot. Unfortunately, this folder is discontinued and only available in the mini size which won't cover this area. I think many other folders would look good, the Brick folder if you have it or even this Cracked folder just switch the direction of the lines to horizontal.
The Costume Party dieset is what cuts out the cute trick or treaters in the foreground. Unfortunately, they have been discontinued. But I know many people have these or you can substitute the witch in the foreground or many other characters Tim Holtz has made with Sizzix. The Count? Cats?
That's about it, I added a few more details like the candles near the gate, the graves, the spider web in the corner, the jack o lantern, and a few leaves under the feet of the Costume Party characters.
Supplies are listed below with direct links to the stores that carry them. If you use my link to make a purchase, I receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.
I couldn't find the "Costume Party", "Regions Beyond" and Full size "Cobblestone" (only mini were available).
