December 2024 Spellbinders Stitching Die of the Month!

 

The year is coming to a close. Thank you for all the support you have given me. I really appreciate all the people who have taken the time to use my links. For today's card I used the Stitching Die of the Month, "Stitched Notched Corner Card". There's the stitching die, (which looks good unstitched as well), it cuts out the center oval. This is a perfect spot for a photo or diecuts like I used. There are floral dies included in the set but I used a bigger set for my card, called "Little Blooms". The solid notched corner die is a solid piece (it's the gold mat I used). Another great basic. The club is only open to new members until the 27th. The thread I used is a color verigated thread from DMC. I don't have a link, I purchased it in store at Michaels. The thread is dyed so it goes from light pink to dark pink.

Spellbinders sent me the Stitching Die of the Month for me to use and provide content. I try hard to come up with some creative ideas to share, they give me no direction, in fact, the dies come to me unpackaged, not like someone who buys them, I get them in a small baggie. Sometimes it takes me a bit to figure out how to use them! 

In return, I have to post my photos to social media, I post everything on Instagram, some of them here, a few on YouTube and Facebook.

House Mouse "Sew Sweet" Stamp and Spellbinders Stitching Themed Dies

 

House Mouse always has such cute stamps and they are made on red rubber (cling) for amazing detail. I colored the image with Copics and then used Broken China and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide inks for the background.

I thought it would be cute to use some stitching themed dies for accents. I used November's Stitching Die of the Month, "Cross Stitch Nested Card Front and Tag die. It's now available outside the club. I used the largest die with brown cardstock. I cut it 2x and glued them together for stability since I had 65lb paper. I used red embroidery thread (separate the 6 strands into 3 strands) and x stitched the frame. I took another brown frame and glued it to the back, sandwiching the thread. I did this so the frame wouldn't buckle and would easily be adhered to the stamped piece.

I mounted this all on a 5" x 6.5" white card. The sentiment is from the set, I white heat embossed it. The scissors, needle and thread are from "Needleworker Tool Kit", also from Spellbinders, a set from a few months ago.

Spellbinders Love on the Rocks

 

Getting ready for Valentines! Spellbinders "Love on the Rocks" collection is out. The Love on the Rocks dieset is a glass with a drink, strawberry and hearts. I diecut the glass from a scrap of silver glitter cardstock. The drink inside the galss is cut from a scrap of Yupo paper with alcohol ink on it.

For the sentiment, although it's a BetterPress Plate, I decided to hotfoil it with black Glimmer hot foil, such a clean look.

The background is December 2024's 3D Embossing Folder of the Month, "The Heart Scallop". You can join the club and get this folder at the discounted price until the 27th. After that, it will be available as a single purchase by the 10th of the following month.

For my 2nd card, I used the "My Heart Beats for You" BetterPress Plate. I decided to foil it with Copper Glimmer foil on black cardstock for a bit of drama. It looks a bit dark but I put it on a pink card to lighten it up. I used this month's Stitching Die of the Month, "Stitched Notch Corner Card" to cut out the unique shape. I didn't use the stitching coverplate, just the dies that cut the notched shape and the thin outline.

Metallic Paint and the Blackout Technique

 

The Blackout Technique makes such a great looking card. I've done it with Simon Hurley's Lunar Paste and now I've tried it with metallic watercolors. I have Finetec Pearlescent Watercolors which are highly pigmented. You can also try Altenew's metallic watercolors which should work, but I don't own those.

 I used Scrapbookcom's black Mixed Media cardstock. It's very heavyweight and can absorb the water and watercolors without buckling. I can't recommend this paper enough.

I just randomly swirled on the paint covering the entire sheet. Very easy to do!

I then took the Spellbinder's Rosette Burst 3D embossing folder (It was November's 3D embossing folder of the month) and flipped the folder over so that the raised side is what touched the painted side of the paper. 

After I ran it through the machine, I rubbed a Black Archival ink pad over the paper. It highlights the paint that is pushed into the paper.

It looks so good. There's so many medium you can use for this technique, you just have to try what you have.

For the sentiment, I painted a scrap of the same black paper with the gold paint and diecut the Simon Hurley Everyday Sentiments for Happy Birthday.

Simon Says Stamp DieCember GWP Tim Holtz's Be of Good Cheer Dieset

 

It's Simon Says Stamps' DieCember, when they celebrate all things dies! They are offering a limited edition Tim Holtz "Be of Good Cheer" dieset as a gift with a $25 Tim Holtz purchase. Here's a photo of what the dieset includes:

It's the Santa and Snowman heads plus the little snowflake (?) dies. I think those little pieces can add such a pretty highlight. I cut them from white glitter paper for both cards but they would look good in metallic cardstock too. Here is a link to Simon Says Stamp, but I'd hurry, they've been available for a week and when they are gone, they won't be available again. What did I buy to reach my $25 purchase? Some Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Heavy Cardstock and Distress Spray Stains. 

For my Santa card, I sprayed Distress Spray Stains, Oxides and Mica. The colors are all mixed together but I tipped the paper so that the darkest color would settle to the bottom of the paper.  I used Speckled Egg Oxide first, then went darker to Salty Ocean and Faded Jeans in regular Distress Spray Stains. I added some Distress Spritz in Unchartered Mariner. The Distress Mica Stain is in Snow Flurries. I added water and it all kind of blended on its own. I dried it with a heat tool then went back and did a few quick spritzs of the Faded Jeans Distress Spray Stain for some little specks of dark color.

The leaves and are from the Festive Gatherings dieset, a bit older set. The sentiment from "Vault Holiday Classic".Everything else is cut from pre inked papers, just scraps I had on hand, all Distress Sprays. 

The white Glitter paper is from Michaels. I added a bit of Distress Rock Candy and Distress Mica Flakes with Glossy Accents to look like ice and snow. I used a Scrapbookcom White Luster Pen for the spatters.

For my Snowman card, I used Salvaged Patina Distress Spray Stain and water for a bit of uneven color application. After it was dry, I took Picket Fence Distress Spray and removed the nozzle and drops of it on the paper, added just a few mists of water and dried it.

I put together the Vault Festive Wreath with more of my scraps. I cut the Joy from kraft cardstock and cut it out to look like a wooden sign. This dieset is called Christmas Cutouts. I cut it again from black and pieced the letters back into the sign. I took a mini ink pad in Gathered Twigs and lightly made some horizontal lines over the kraft cardstock to mimic woodgrain.

I used the same white glitter paper to cut the snowman and the snowflakes. I added some Distress Mica Flakes and Distress Rock Candy with Glossy Accents again, then spattered the white pen.
