The Decorative Cover Plate by Scrapbookcom is a unique pattern. I really like adding some texture to a background and usually use an embossing folder but when I received this coverplate I thought it would make a great background for a simple image.
I took a piece of Scrapbookcom Mixed Media black cardstock and covered it with Solar Pastes in Cross My Heart, Beluga, and Royal Flush. I applied it with a craft tool and pulled horizontal lines across the paper. I let it dry and then diecut the panel with the coverplate. I layered it on top of 2 more of these diecuts using just regular black cardstock. I wanted some dimension here.
For the inked paper underneath, I used Ranger Alcohol Ink Cardstock. It's a glossy cardstock that takes the ink pretty well. I applied it in a way that I found out shouldn't be done after I did it.
I applied the Distress Oxide Ink onto a gel plate, dragging the ink pad onto the gel plate and then smoothing out the colors with a brayer. The next part I found out is a NO-NO. I pressed my glossy cardstock onto the gel plate.
Apparently it's one of the only papers that Gelli Arts (on their website) says not to use with the gel plate. I guess it can get stuck. Mine didn't but my plate is very old and doesn't have a ton of stick to it. So I would definitely be aware that this can happen. Really, you can use regular cardstock and it looks pretty much the same. I just happened to try this glossy cardstock and had this background in my stash and just used it.
I diecut the balloon from a scrap of pink cardstock and ink blended around the edges. I stamped the sentiment and hearts from the Sunny Lane stamp set. I popped it up with a piece of foam and tied a piece of twine to the balloon.
