Susanbcards: Simon Says Stamp Mountain Horizon DieCember 2025

It's Simon Says Stamp's DieCember! I received the Mountain Horizon background die. You can see the entire DieCember release by clicking HERE.

The background die is pictured in my photo below:

I diecut a piece of black mixed media cardstock. I knew I was going to used metallic watercolors, black always shows them off the best. I cut the paper slightly larger than A2 size, the die cuts an A2 frame for the image to sit inside. I wanted to be sure that this frame cut properly.

I removed the paper from the die a piece at a time so I could paint each piece, the top and bottom of this image is a bit like a mirror image. I used Fine Tec pearlescent watercolors. They have quite a bit of mica shine. It took 2 coats to cover the black paper. After each piece was dry I placed them under a book to flatten them out from the water. I took a black marker and ran it over the side edge, you can see a bit of the edge after it's put into place and it bothered me that I could see a bit of paint here and there between the pieces.

I took a black A2 card and carefully glued the frame to it. Remember the pieces have to fit back into the frame so try to get it very straight. Honestly it all fit until the very bottom, I had to trim the piece to fit into the frame. I glued each piece, careful not to put too much near the edge, you don't want glue ooze between the pieces.

I pictured this as a mountain scene, so I diecut some small trees. Mine are from Simon Says Stamp's Winter Village. The Peace die is from Simon Says Stamp, Fancy Peace. Both of these diesets are older sets.

I painted strips of color the size of the Peace and tree dies before diecutting the paper and let it dry flat. I thought it was easier than painting after diecutting. You can see from the photo I cut the Peace die 2x, glued them together for dimension.

You could always cut this die from different colors of scrap paper, no paint, but I liked this idea. Plus I only had to diecut it once!
