Spellbinders Simon's Space Adventure in Mixed Media

Spellbinders just released Simon's Space Adventure Collection by Simon Hurley. For the diecuts,
I used Scrapbookcom Mixed Media Cardstock and colored it with Lunar Pastes.

For the background, I used Distress Spray, going from light to dark, adding a bit of ink blending along the edges.

I love the way this card turned out, it reminds me of an illustration for a children's book. I made another card which I'll show later using the other dieset in this collection, UFO Friend.

Below is a YouTube Video tutorial.

The supplies I used are listed below with direct links to where you can find them. Using my link when making a purchase lets the company know you find my content useful and they give me a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for your support, it will allow me to continue to provide content.

Spellbinders Jack of All Trades Collection

When I saw the Spellbinders Jack of All Trades Collection, I knew I wanted to create with it. We're always looking for masculine (greeting) card ideas and I thought this collection could fit the bill. Below is a photo of the entire collection, you can also see it HERE.

For my first cards, I decided to use the "Reversible Royal Court" dies with the Deluxe Deck Press Plates. The BetterPress plates look like  the design on the back of a playing card, so elegant. I decided to Glimmer Hot Foil the press plate, just because I wanted a shiny gold metallic foil.
I used blue and red metallic cardstock (Michaels Recollection brand) I had this from a few years ago, but Michaels always has packs of metallic cardstock, colors may vary.
The foiling was pretty clean, I was able to easily reverse foil the leftover hot foil, using a solid hot foil plate, 2 card fronts from 1 piece of foil.

The Reversible Royal Court dieset is pretty straight forward. I organized the pieces, separating the men's pieces from the women's pieces. I decided to make 2 of each, and puttin one upside down the way a playing card looks.
These would make cute Valentine's Day cards writing your own sentiment, King (or Queen) of my heart. I didn't add a sentiment to the front of the card, I thought it was busy enough, but any one of the sentiment strips could be used on the inside of the card. I think the banner die included in the sentiment set would look great inside the card, a bit different to use another die inside the card.

Here are photos of the individual cards:

I used pink shimmer paper and a some pink glitter paper for the queen's dress.

I used blue metallic paper and blue glitter paper for the king's clothes and scrap from my stash for the rest.

Listed below are the supplies I used with direct links to where you can find the products. It is quite helpful to me if you use my link to make a purchase. It lets companies know you find my content useful at no additional charge to you. Thank you!

A Quick and Simple Watercolor Background and Spellbinders Large DOM!

Hello! Today I'm sharing the January 2025 Spellbinders Large Die of the Month, "Botanical Atrium". Isn't gorgeous??

Although it is a Club Kit, you can join the club for just this month and quit at any time, or wait until February 10 and buy it at a slightly higher price, if it's still available. There are many perks to joining the club, you can read about them HERE.

I often get questions about how I make my backgrounds, so I thought I'd do a quick tutorial for this card. I used a similar background a few months ago for a Sizzix sample, I show it in the video below:

This is a simple technique, you really only need to know a few tips to do it. As I went along and added different shades of green, I remembered to dry the layers, otherwise you are just mixing the paint together.
I wanted the center of the panel to be darker, I added dark blue paint and then added green to it, giving me a deep dark green. I added some gold spatters to highlight the gold atrium.
I think a background like this adds visual interest to a card. Test it out, take a solid piece of cardstock, put some diecuts on it, then move the diecuts to a painted or inked background and you'll probably prefer the painted one. Use colors that compliment the diecut colors, remember, it's a background, the diecuts should be the star.

I used vellum for the solid piece behind the diecuts. I wanted to be able to see a hint of the greens behind it. The vellum looked a bit stark, so I took some green Distress Oxide inks and blended it on the back of the vellum so it wouldn't appear white. To hide the adhesive foam behind the vellum, I placed it behind the diecuts.

The sentiment is from the BetterPress Club of the Month, I used some gold Glimmer foil on dark green cardstock.

Here are the supplies I used for my card. I have direct links to the products. If you use my link to make a purchase, I receive a small commission at no additional charge to you. Please note, I am not informed with who uses my links. So if you do use my link, let me know, I'd love to send you a card!
(FYI some of the stores use Shopify. If you've used Shopify in the past, on the order page it will come up and ask you to use their link to fill in your address and track your package. If you use it, they receive the commission instead of me.) Thank you for using my link, it allows me to continue to provide content and lets the stores know you find my content useful.

Spellbinders January 2025 Stitching Die of the Month

Happy New Year! Today I'm sharing the Spellbinders January 2025 Stitching Die of the Month, "Stitched Ladybug". This is a packed club kit this month. It includes the ladybug, the oval frame, flower, leaf and sentiment dies. I stitched the ladybug but didn't stitch the oval. It's so great that you can choose to stitch or not stitch the pieces, it makes the set much more versatile.

I wanted to include more leaves so I took them from the January Large Die of the Month, Botanical Atrium. The background is made using the December 3D Embossing Folder of the Month, "Tiny Heart Scallop", which is now available for individual purchase (you don't have to join the club).

Two ladybugs would have been cute for Valentine's Day but I decided to take some time off and ran out of time. So know that would be a cute idea, maybe with the sentiment "Love Bugs".

Learn more about the Spellbinders Clubs HERE. Remember you can join and cancel after your kit ships if you only want one. Personally, whichever you choose is a great deal and there are so many perks to being a club member.

Supplies are listed below with my affiliate links. If you use my link to make a purchase (and don't used Shopify) I receive a small commission which will allow me to continue sharing content, thank you!  If you use Shopify, they receive the commission.

December 2024 Spellbinders Stitching Die of the Month!

The year is coming to a close. Thank you for all the support you have given me. I really appreciate all the people who have taken the time to use my links. I receive a small commission at no additional cost to you if you make a purchase. It helps pay for all the extras I purchase myself, the paper, glue, the never ending tape runners that don't work. LOL. It's like asking the stores to give me a tip that you don't have to pay for!

For today's card I used the Stitching Die of the Month, "Stitched Notched Corner Card". There's the stitching die, (which looks good unstitched as well), it cuts out the center oval. This is a perfect spot for a photo or diecuts like I used. There are floral dies included in the set but I used a bigger set for my card, called "Little Blooms". The solid notched corner die is a solid piece (it's the gold mat I used). Another great basic. The club is only open to new members until the 27th. Remember you can join and quit at any time and still get the discounted price. Plus there are a ton of other benefits, click HERE to learn more!

The thread I used is a color verigated thread from DMC. I don't have a link, I purchased it in store at Michaels. The thread is dyed so it goes from light pink to dark pink.

Spellbinders sent me the Stitching Die of the Month for me to use and provide content. I try hard to come up with some creative ideas to share, they give me no direction, in fact, the dies come to me unpackaged, not like someone who buys them, I get them in a small baggie. Sometimes it takes me a bit to figure out how to use them!
In return, I have to post my photos to social media, I post everything on Instagram, some of them here, a few on YouTube and Facebook.

I don't know who uses my links, so if you do and you would like to let me know, that's great. I'm also happy to send you a thank you card.
FYI, if you use Shopify to make purchases, they receive the commission. Shopify comes up on the last page where you make a purchase, it will ask you if you'd like to use Shopify to enter your address and track your package.
