The Spellbinders Collaged Bird Collection by Dina Wakely

I was pretty excited to see the Dina Wakely "Collaged Birds" Collection for Spellbinders, click here to see the entire collection. I enjoy working with a mixed media collection every now and then.

I used Ranger's Mixed Media Heavystock cut down to A2 size. I sprayed the paper with Distress Sprays in Rusty Hinge, Salvaged Patina, and just a little bit of Gathered Twigs. I spritzed a bit of Distress Oxide Spray in Old Paper, just a little so the chalky oxide look wouldn't take over the entire image.

After it dried, I embossed the paper with the Soaring Embossing Folder. It has some type print on it and the swirl of birds. I rubbed a Gathered Twigs ink pad over the print to make it stand out more. After that ink dried, I took a gold pigment ink pad and highlight the birds, and gold heat embossed that area.

I then embossed the 3 "Collaged Birds" BetterPress plates and diecut the images. The sentiment is from the same collection, I used "sparkle like you mean it", I just love that saying. I used gold hot foil and lightly inked the edges of the sentiment strip.

That's it for today! Supplies are listed below, if I have inspired you to purchase any of these items, please use my link. It lets the stores know you find my content useful and allows me to continue using their products. I very much appreciate it.

More Ways to Use a BetterPress Plate!

The Spellbinders March 2025 BetterPress of the Month is "Quilted Memories". Most months, I use the BetterPress of the Month with the Glimmer Hot Foil machine, it looks good and there's no mess.

The gold one above is gold foil paper embossed. I then took some black acrylic paint and with a paper towel, rubbed it onto the paper, let lightly misted another paper towel and wiped it off. The paint dulls the shine of the paper and colors in the recessed areas.

For the diecut center, I used the same metallic paper and diecut the flowers and the arch. The dies are from the Large Dieset of the Month.

This month, I did ink it up:

It's a pretty design, an outline of some florals. There is a Stencil of the Month that matches this that beautifully colors this design. You can see the Club Kits for Match 2025 by clicking HERE.

I saw a Jennifer McGuire video where she took a floral BetterPress and embossed paper with it. It looked interesting but me being the kind of person who really likes an embossing folder, I knew I would be more interested in using a cover plate BetterPress plate to emboss.

The way I often use 3D embossing folders is with ink, so that is the idea I had. Emboss with the BetterPress Plate but ink it up first. I made a YouTube video you can watch here:

The photo below shows other ways I used the BetterPress, the gold background is gold wrapping paper! A cost saving way to emboss paper for cards. I just cut a piece of wrapping paper and embossed it, then trimmed it to fit my A2 card.

I used my Sizzix Big Shot to emboss these papers. The sandwich I used is: The Multipurpose Platform set on 1 for embossing dies, a bottom plate, a flexible silicone mat, the paper/cardstock, the BetterPress Plate (inked or not) and a top plate.

The purple background, above, left: inked and embossed onto purple shimmer cardstock (I think it's from Box 10 of Your Paper Insider). The glass die is Spellbinders, the paper inside the glass is a scrap of alcohol inked yupo paper.

The multi-colored background, above, right:  black hot foiled onto Your Paper Insider paper. The Sunset in a Glass die is cut from scraps of colored metallic cardstock.

The gold background, above, center: embossed wrapping paper from Michaels.

I also used Solar Pastes on black Mixed Media Paper, inked up this BetterPress plate and embossed it.

Supplies I used with direct links to  the products. If you use my link to make a purchase, I receive a small commission, at no charge to you. Thank you, it helps me to continue providing content.

Spellbinders 3D Embossing Folder of the Month

The March 2025 3D Embossing Folder of the Month is this gorgeous, it's called "Floral Fence of Togetherness". As always, you can join a Spellbinders club and quit at any time, you also receive some benefits as a club member, including a discount on most Spellbinders products, you can read more about it HERE.

It was pretty simple to make this card, I ink blended Distress Oxide Inks on a piece of white cardstock. The colors I used were: Kitsch Flamningo, Squeezed Lemonade, and Salvage Patina. and Broken China.

I ran it through my Sizzix Big Shot. I see lots of questions about if you need a Spellbinders machine to use their 3D embossing folders. I have found the sandwich for using it is: Sizzix Big Shot with the Multipurpose Platform on #1 (for embossing), a Silicone mat instead of a bottom plate, then the 3D embossing folder, and then a top plate. Be sure NEVER to force anything through your machine, this will break it!

After I embossed the paper took the blending brushes I had used for inking the paper and lightly ran them over the raised areas just to slightly darken it up. I felt like it needed some highlights so I took a white gel pen and made some highlights on the petals. That was it.

Listed below are the supplies I used for this project. If you use my link to make a purchase, I receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. It lets the stores know you find my content useful and lets me know I should continue sharing the details.

Spellbinders March 2025 Stitching Die of the Month

Although it's the Stitching Die of the Month, I decided not to stitch it. I diecut it from 110 lb cardstock and thought it was so pretty, decided to just ink blend the panel.

I put it on a sticky mat so that I wouldn't accidently bend it while applying ink. Sticky Mats come in handy for keeping paper in place and for tiny diecuts. There are tons of mats on the market, I like this one that doesn't take up much space.

These are the colorss of Distress Oxide Inks I used: Spun Sugar, Scattered Straw and Salvaged Patina. My blending brushes have ink on them from previous times I used them, the colors actually came out darker than they should be.

For the center diecuts, I used the  March 2025 Large Die of the Month. There are quite a few dies in this set, it includes the arch and the flowers, there's also a dinosaur and a dog too.

Both sets are Club Kits, they are shipped at a discounted price, plus there are other perks to being a club member, like 10% off Spellbinders products on their site. You can read about it HERE.

Listed below are the supplies I used with my links, if you use my link to make a purchase, I receive a small commission at no additional charge to you. This helps me continue providing content, thank you!

Bearded Iris and Gorgeous Paper

I'm using the Altenew Bearded Iris Again, this time with scraps of colored cardstock. I added only a little Copic marker on one of the petals, just as a gocal point.

My goal was to use this pretty paper white textured paper from Box 10 of Your Paper Insider. It reminds me of corrugated paper but in white. It's textured but doesn't take away from the flowers. Click below to see the contents of Box 10. You can subscribe and get assorted papers 4x a year, or a 1 month gift subscription, or buy past individual boxes if they're still available, I'll put a clickable link in my supply list so you can check it out.

Here's a quick video showing the contents:

The Celebrate sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp, diecut and stacked 3x.

Supplies are linked below to where you can buy them, Using my links helps me continue sharing content, so thank you!
