Susanbcards: A Northern Lights Background and the Ho Ho Ho Stamp & Dies by Simon Hurley

So many people posted photos of the Northern Lights in their backyards this month. I looked but it was too cloudy! I did enjoy seeing everyone's photo though.

Today I created my own Northern Lights night sky, using black Mixed Media paper and Solar Paste. I love the look of Solar Paste on black paper, the colors shimmer and shine. On white paper, it looks irridescent.

I have Simon Hurley's Ho Ho Ho stamps and matching dies. Ranger made the stamps and Spellbinders made the matching dies. I linked the products below under "Supplies".

I like having the matching dies so I can avoid fussy cutting, using different products and colors on my stamps and also pop up some of the images. The dieset includes dies for the sentiments, my favorite! Whenever I fussy cut my sentiments it looks odd. I'm not sure how people are able to get a nice even cut around the words.

I've shown how I apply the Solar Paste to my paper, using a blending tool and a flat foam blender. I just put a small amount of Solar Paste on the blender, and swirl the paste around, wiping off the foam when I change colors. I used Beluga, Cross My Heart, Crocodile Tears and Royal Flush. I let this COMPLETELY DRY before stamping and pouring white embossing powder on the background. If you don't you'll have embossing powder everywhere.

I used VersaMark ink to stamp the tree tops along the bottom of my paper. I wanted to fill in the spaces between the trees, so I created another background panel and stamped, emossed and diecut the tree tops, then popped them up with foam tape. My panel is 4" x 5.25", and adhered to a black A2 sized card 4.25" x 5.5".

I stamped the Santa image on white cardstock and gold heat embossed it. I used a wash of watercolors over the image. No sentiment today, I'll probably put one inside the card.
