I just received some of the new Sizzix Tim Holtz release. Today I'm sharing a card I made using Yuletide Harvey. He's a smaller version of the original Harvey and comes with this pretty dieset to make a greenery swag.
I diecut the set from regular cardstock, mostly scraps since the pieces are so small. I took a brick colored cardstock and cut it to an A2 size. I used the old brick embossing folder (no longer made but there is a larger A5 brick embossing folder) and put some Black Soot Distress Ink and rubbed the ink pad over it. After embossing, it pushed the black ink into the grout area of the brick wall. To give the bricks and aged look, I took some mini Distress Oxide ink pads and touched the bricks, here and there. Super easy.
I took 2 Spellbinders arch dies to make the white frame, cutting it 2x to give it some dimension. I took the smaller of the 2 and diecut the center of the brick wall out. I placed it over the snowflake background.
To make the snowflake background, I inked the Vault Snowflakes embossing folder and inked it up with Broken China Distress Oxide ink. I put a piece of white cardstock into the folder and embossed it.
I diecut the swag 2x from shades of green cardstock. I cut the bows 3 times. I used pop dots to give the swag some dimension off the card.
I cut the larger arch from scrap paper to cover the frame and snowflake background. I spattered some white acrylic paint over the brick and swags.

Hi, Susan. Your card is adorable. This is probably a strange request but I purchased this die set and for some reason I am having trouble with the garland dies. Any tips you can give me. I know the two main pieces but the third more detailed piece has me puzzled on its placement. Any help you can give me would really be appreciated as I love the garland. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if you're going to see this as you posted your comment as anonymous. The 1st piece is the base color, you only really end up seeing the veins. The 2nd piece is the main leaves, in my card the darkest green. You could stop here if you wanted and still have a good swag. The 3rd piece fits over parts of the 2nd piece, in my card the lightest green (the larger layer fits over starting with the farthest left side, the smaller piece fits over the farthest right side. It just gives dimension and color variation. I really recommend making a sample in odd colors to keep with the package.
