The Spellbinders Anemone from the Summer Solstice Garden Collection

 

The Spellbinders Anemone from the Summer Solstice Garden Collection by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. I always watch Susan Tierney-Cockburn's videoes on the Spellbinders YouTube channel, it's the best way to learn how to make these dimensional flowers. For these flowers, I used 80lb white cardstock and colored the purple bloom with Villianous Purple Distress Oxide ink and a blending brush. For the white/lilac flower, I used a Copic marker to lightly color the edges. After shaping it, I just glued it to the card front.

The card front was in my stash, I wish I could remember exactly what I used on it. I do know it's Distress Mica Spray Stain, those Tim Holtz holiday sprays. I didn't really like it at first but now I think it goes perfectly with these purple blooms.

The sentiment is from the Kokeshi Dolls Collection, I cut it from black cardstock 3x to stack it.

Spellbinders Begonia and Ladybugs Dieset

 

Oh, the dimension created from these Spellbinders Begonia and Ladybugs dies by Susan Tierney Cockburn! I used watercolor paper to cut these out and painted them with Altenew watercolors, adding extra color to the edges with a flat brush. You need to add some color to the back side since from some angles you can see the underside of the petals.

Watercolor paper is pretty thick but once wet, more pliable. I have also made these with 65 lb colored cardstock and just added a bit of dark color with Copic markers and they look equally as good and are easier to shape. Plus they already start out colored so less work. 

If you are interested in making dimensional flowers, I'd recommend watching Susan Tierney Cockburn's video on the Spellbinders channel. You can see the one for this set HERE. She uses her shaping kit but everywhere I looked it was sold out. So I used the Sizzix set, which I'll link below under supplies.

The embossing folder is from Spellbinders and I used white cardstock, lightly misted. The ladybug comes with the set, I used a stylus from the shaping kit to give it a bit of dimension and then used Glossy Accents for a bit of shine.

The lovely sentiment (Black Glimmer hot foiled but it is a BetterPress plate) is from the same Susan Tierney Cockburn collection called Summer Soltice Garden. Spellbinders Fan & Bow Dieset

 Spellbinders has a new collection called, "Spring in Kyoto". This set is based around Japanese Kokeshi dolls, which are painted wooden dolls. I have a few of these traditional dolls, so I was excited to see this collection. You can see the entire collection by clicking HERE.

For my card today, I used the Floral Fans 3D embossing folder and some pretty Pearlescent cardstock. I dragged a black ink pad over the inside of the folder and ran it through my Big Shot, it made the images stand out even more. I have a card I made before using this technique and blog post and YouTube tutorial HERE.

For the Fan & Bow die, I used some pretty fuchsia cardstock, it has a nice shimmer to it. This paper was from Your Paper Insider, Box 10, which is unfortunately sold out. As I've said before, it's really convenient to have a box of assorted specialty papers on hand. Box 11 is still in stock and it has some really great papers in it. 

The fan has pieces that are slightly offset to make it look like it really folds open (see photo above). The sentiment is from this collection too, I used black cardstock and gold Glimmer foil on it. I had a floral gem sticker from a LONG time ago that I put down as an accent. I'm one of those people that saves a ton of stuff.

Spellbinders Classic Road Legends

 

If you are one of those people always looking for masculine card ideas, this collection is for you! "Classic Road Legends" by Mindy Eggen for Spellbinders! You can see the entire collection by clicking HERE.

There are 3 car models, I have used each of them on my cards today. I used metallic cardstock for my cars, I felt like shine was necessary, plus it's easy!

There is a set of stencils to create the country setting, easy! The speedometer is so fun, perfect for Valentine's Day too, you could print You make my heart race, lol.

The BetterPress plate is "Radiant Starburst" which is a great focal point. I used gold Glimmer hot foil on it.

Spellbinders May BetterPress Plate of the Month!

 

The Spellbinders BetterPress Plate of the Month for May is "From A to Z". I Glimmer hot foiled the plate with a rainbow foil. You could also use ink on the plate and BetterPress it but I am lazy about cleaning off the ink. Luckily you can do either with the BetterPress plates. Remember, you can sign up for a club kit, get the discount and then cancel your subscription anytime, even after just receiving 1! Or you can wait until the following month and get it at a slightly higher cost without joining the club. To learn more about the clubs and perks, click HERE.

I decided to just use the simple sentiment in the kit, "From A to Z you inspire me". Nice for anyone to receive. I send a lot of cards to charities, especially to individuals needing a little happy mail, so this is a good general sentiment.

I diecut the pencils from metallic cardstock, I save all the little pieces from my fancy cardstocks and they come in handy. The pencil die is from my favorite collection from April, called Field Notes. If you haven't seen it, click HERE. The 3 diesets are good basics to have in your stash, the Twine, the Wildflowers and the Tools are versatile and look great on a lot of cards. Seth Apter for Sizzix Collection!

 

The new collection from Seth Apter and Sizzix has just been released! Seth Apter is a mixed media artist who has many different products, stamps, embossing powders, and now diecut sets and embossing folder. 

Scrapbookcom was nice enough to send me a set of products to try. If you'd like to see the entire collection, you can click HERE.

For this card, I used the Dot Matrix embossing folder. I used Simon Hurley's Lunar Pastes on black mixed media paper. I have used this many times before, I have a YouTube video demonstrating a different card, HERE.

 I just swirl the pastes onto the paper with a blending tool, let it dry and then put it into the embossing folder and run it through my Big Shot.

For the next 3 cards, I used a gel plate and acrylic paints. I made a stencil from the Waffle die, I used 110 lb cardstock. This stencil worked very well with the gel plate, but that's because I just laid it down on the plate, it wouldn't hold up very well with repeated use like ink blenders or pastes. 

I used inexpensive acrylic paints from Michaels in bright colors. It was pretty fun. I used a brayer to roll a thin layer of paint down. I then placed the stencil on top and a piece of paper on top of that, rubbing over the entire plate/stencil. This removes some of the paint around the stencil. I carefully removed the stencil and let the paint dry. I then layered on top a different color of paint (this is why the first layer must be dry, or it will just smear the design). This coat should just cover the design but not be too thick. After it sits for just a bit, not wet, just tacky, you can place another piece of paper on top and pull the print. 

You can see the design pretty well in 2 of the cards but it's hard to see on the red card, I think the gold metallic paint didn't work as well. That design is much more subtle but I still like it. I edge the card in gold paint.

On the green/blue card you can see I used part of the stencil after I was done with it as a diecut on top of the design. I also cut out the letters from some inked cardstock (Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide) and used some Glossy Accents to make it shine. The other cards just used cardstock.
