Spellbinders Spotlight Frames and Florals

The Spellbinders Spotlight Frames and Florals Collection Spellbinders Spotlight Frames and Florals Collection includes this Stitched Circle Background dieset, that looks like a shoji screen. I cut it from black cardstock and placed it over a piece of vellum.

I diecut the Layered Iris die from colored cardstock and used some Distress Ink to shade it a bit.

I cut a mat from this gorgeous paper, it's pearlescent gold and it looks like silk. It's called Neenah Stardream in Antique Gold. I used it with an embossing folder and it came out amazing. Here's a link to that post:  https://susanbcards.blogspot.com/2023/10/neenah-pearlescent-cardstock-from-12x12.html

That's it, easy peasy!

Rosie's Studio Bayfair Collection Patterned Paper & Embellishments!

Spellbinders store carries Rosie's Studio papers and embellishments. The new Bayfair Collection is a beautiful assortment of country florals. You can see the entire collection HERE.

For my cards I used a mix of old and new. I started with the Bayfair 6x6 paper pad, using 3 of the 20 designs (2 of each in the pad for a total of 40 sheets. I cut the sheets down to A2 size (4 1/4" x 5 1/2"). The pad also comes in 12x12.

For my first card, I used a sheet of blue paper. To keep it clean looking, I cut the Club Bloom flowers from white cardstock, gold metallic cardstock and vellum. I added the dragonfly but this may be unavailable. The sentiment is a from the Bayfair Puffy Sticker Sheet, I have a photo of it under supplies, there are some cute stickers, great on cards or layouts.

Speaking of the Club Blooms, Spellbinders has a GREAT sale going right now, check it out here!

My 2nd card includes another sheet of the paper, the Bayfair Buttons, a very cute set of dimensional buttons but they are STICKERS. See the photo in supplies. These are super cute!
The diecut flower is an oldie but a goody, which means it's on sale now! It's the Sunflower Serenade die, one of my favorite collections from last fall.

My last card is another piece of paper from the paper pad, some of the Puffy Stickers and the Susan Tierney Cockburn "Sunflower and Ladybugs" dieset, again, an oldie but a goody. Included in the sale!

Spellbinders Spotlight Frames and Florals Collection!

I didn't realize how much I would love the Spotlight Frames, these are called the "Stitched Edge Circle Backgrounds" dies from the Lisa Horton Spotlight Frames and Florals Collection. PHEW, that's a long name.

Here's the YouTube Tutorial if you'd rather watch:

I started with the background, a piece of Scrapbookcom Mixed Media black paper. It's super thick, 140 lb, great for wet media. I applied 2 coats of the Simon Hurley Neon Lunar Pastes for my 2 cards, in Mood Ring (pink), Yellow Jacket and Tangent (orange) on both, I added No Chill (blue) for the 2nd card. I always like to use the Ranger flat foam blending sponge for this. I linked all the products below, clickable links are all highlighted or click on the product photos.

For the flowers I used some already inked paper from my stash. The flower heads are cut from Prom Queen Lunar Paste on white Mixed Media paper, the stems and leaves are cut from Crocodile Tears Solar Paste on black paper.

I like to try different techniques using all media, so I have lots of experiments gone bad that I keep to diecut. Doing this gives me the freedom to try new things without the fear of wasting paper and product!

For my 3rd card, I used 2 of the zigzag diecuts from the Stitched Edge Circle dieset. One cut from black cardstock, the other from Beluga Lunar Paste on black, turning one upside down and gluing it together to create a new pattern. I used the plain circle die to cut a glitter metallic circle for the base. I used the same papers to cut the Hello die, shadow and outlines. I then attached the Sunset Butterfly.

In my video I showed this card using Spellbinders Timeless Collection and some Twilight Butterflies.

Information about this card including supplies used can be found on my blog post from May 12, here.

Using Patterned Paper and Dies on a Card!

A few months ago, I received some Paper Rose Studio printed paper. I made some cards with it, you can see that video here

Up until that point I was a bit of a background paper snob, choosing to create my own background, mostly with ink. But after making that card I realized how pretty a card could be using printed paper, supplementing the card with diecuts in coordinating colors.

This pretty paper pad is available at Scrapbookcom, it's called "Joyful" and there is a matching set of dies! I'd rush and check it out if you llike it, because only this weekend, it's a GIFT WITH A $20 PURCHASE! Click HERE for the details.

The paper pad has many different patterns, not all are floral, it just so happens I picked this page and it worked with the dies in the set. The paper is double-sided, some are solid.

The cardstock I used is mostly scraps but the card panel is Sizzix paper. They have linen textured cardstock.

I think the key to a pretty card is dimension. Either with foam tape or ink blending, just something to keep it from looking flat.

I used the Scrapbookcom foam strips for all the tiny, narrow pieces. The sticker gems are from my stash, probably circa 2000.

That's it for today! Supplies are linked below. Using my links let me know you find my work inspiring and will allow me to continue sharing my techniques.

Sizzix Cosmopolitan Farfallina Stamp and Stencil

I received this Sizzix "Cosmopolitan Farfallina" Stamps with Stencil set, designed by Stacey Park.

I'm not a big stamper, mostly because I don't really color much. So when the stencil is included, it makes life easier! I stamped the butterflies and flower on Hammermill paper with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I used Distress Ink in Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry to apply the color thru the stencil. I used Copic RV09 to darken the color at the base of the flower and add a few streaks.

The butterflies are inked in Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade and Salty Ocean and Blueprint Sketch, but you can't really see much of the yellow once I applied the Glitter Paste over it. The Glitter Paste is old Gina K, no longer available which makes me sad because it had such pretty shine to it. If you know of another good glitter paste, let me know.

I decided to fussy cut the stamped images out so I could use one of my already inked backgrounds.

The background is Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, I dipped Distress Ink in shades of blue, over and over, drying between layers. I love the script used for the sentiments in this stamp set, I put one on an acrylic block and lightly stamped the background to get the scripty look without needing to read the actual words.

Spellbinders Timeless Collection - Mirror, Mirror

The new Spellbinders "Timeless" Collection is an elegant selection of dies, sentiments and butterflies, that work with many basic items from your supplies.

For my project, I wanted to use the sentiment "Here's to beautiful beginnings and happy ever afters" from the "Timeless Sentiments" Press Plates, look at how pretty the font is, a mix of script and type. Rather than inking them and using them as letterpress, I decided to Glimmer Hot Foil the sentiment in silver. Doesn't it look elegant in silver foil? The words reminded me of a fairy tale, which inspired the design of my card, mirror, mirror...

The deep purple cardstock is Spellbinders. I've been looking for a super dark shade of purple, and this cardstock is heavyweight, foiled great and a deep color, it's called Plum, you can see all the colors available here. I highly recommend the Navy too.
I used the "Timeless Duo" a set of flourish dies that can be used separately or layered together. Paired with the oval frame, it resembled the mirror from Sleeping Beauty, to me.

The mirror frame is the April Stitching Die of the Month, "Wall Hanging", a Spellbinders exclusive from their clubs but now available for single purchase.

The butterflies are dimensional stickers, they are sold by color collection. This one is called "Twilight" but check out all the colors here.

I added some flowers, these are "Queen Anne's Lace". I diecut the leaves and attached all the tiny blooms onto it. I used the Sizzix Shaping set to give the dimension by pressing down the center with the stylus on the foam pad.
